Jackson Browne gave us pure magic.
Jackson Browne plockar bland sisådär fjorton, femton akustiska gitarrer och bestämmer låtlistan efter publikens önskemål. Han auktionerar ut låtar från hela karriären och den som skriker högst vinner.
Jackson selects among some fourteen, fifteen acoustic guitars and decides the set-list according to the audience requests. He auctions out the songs from his entire career and the one that shouts the loudest wins.
Men ”The pretender” kommer utan förvarning. Jackson Browne ignorerar publiken, sätter sig ner vid pianot, väntar ett par sekunder och förvandlar sedan sin största ballad till en fulländad psalm.
But ´The Pretender´ comes without a warning. Jackson ignores the audience, sits down at the piano, waits a few seconds and then turns his biggest ballad into a complete psalm.
Intensiteten är skarpare och blåare än en svetslåga. Det känns som att ”The pretender” skrevs igår och inte 1976.
The intensity is sharper and bluer than a welding flame. It feels like ´The Pretender´ was written yesterday, not 1976.

Som partiet där västkustrockens mest välkammade sidbena berättar om alla finska, holländska, spanska och kinesiska varianter av ”Take it easy” som finns därute. Eller den halvt improviserade versionen av ”Lawyers in love”, slideguitar-tappningen av ”Your bright baby blues”, ”These days”, ”Fountain of sorrow”, ”Too many angels” och apokalyptiska ”Late for the sky”...
Like the section where the most well combed fringe of the West coast rock tells us about all the Finnish, Dutch, Spanish and Chinese versions of ´Take It Easy´ that are out there. Or the half improvised version of Lawyers In Love´, the slide guitar version of ´Your Bright Baby Blues´, ´These Days´, ´Fountain Of Sorrow´, ´Too Many Angels´ and the apocalyptic´ Late For The Sky´.....
Men ”The pretender” är den tre timmar korta konsertens vackraste stund. Man håller andan i fem och en halv minut.
But ´The Pretender´ is the most beautiful moment in this three hour short concert. I held my breath for five and a half minute.
